Thanks for your offer to upload to Simtel.Net.
[Note: This is private information. Do not forward or quote from it.]
The Simtel.Net collections are not writeable from the net. However, we
do have a special FTP account available for submissions of files.
Site: upload.simtel.net (also known as mail.petersen.net)
Username: incoming
Password: rxgcptev
Please put your files in the default directory assigned to this username.
PKZIP v2.04g (or compatible) is the preferred format but PKZIP v1.10
files are also accepted. Self-extracting archives are not accepted.
The only exception to this rule is archiver programs, where there would
otherwise be a chicken-and-the-egg problem. Archivers should be uploaded
inside a ZIP file in order to allow us to check the executable for CRC
errors. If your program must be distributed as a SFX because it has an
automatic installation or a security check, put it inside a zip with a
small text file that explains that the EXE is a self-extracting file.
Give a short description of what the program does, who to contact in case
of problems, and where the SFX will be putting its files.
Please remember to use the "binary" or "tenex" mode when uploading binary
files with FTP.
Do not use the same file name as a file that already exists in the
archive. We cannot guarantee that older mirror sites will pick up same
name files. Many BBSs get files from our collections - none of them will
fetch a new file by the same name. There are also user confusion issues.
Please choose a name with the version number in it to help users spot
updates.
All programs submitted to Simtel.Net must include English language
documentation (other languages are allowed but English must also be
included).
A plain text file must be included in the zip file which provides the
following information:
1. The program's purpose.
2. If installation is required, how to install it.
3. The status of the program (Public Domain, Freeware, Shareware)
4. The program's distribution status, i.e. freely distributable
or limitations on distribution.
5. How to contact the author in case of questions or problems
The user must not have to run an executable program to get this
information because that may not be possible due to an incompatible
system or corrupted download.
The Simtel.Net collections are periodically published on CD-ROM by Walnut
Creek CDROM. If you do not wish to have your package distributed on
CD-ROM please do not upload it.
Programs that stop working after a fixed calendar date will not be
accepted.
Please send a separate announcement by e-mail to archive@Simtel.Net
for each package you have uploaded. It should begin with a one line
description in this format:
/pub/simtelnet/msdos/modem/
whtprt40.zip Displays system serial ports & IRQ assignments
